Handbook for integrating web accessibility in ICT education and training at university level
Despite the need for more courses on web accessibility in ICT education in Europe, there are few resources that helps teachers develop new courses. A new handbook for teachers aims at filling this gap. The handbook has been developed by IAAP Nordic and the partners in the Erasmus + project IWAC.
For teachers in Europe looking to start courses on web accessibility there is little information available that both summarises the main elements of the topic and provides guidance to what kind of content can be included in web accessibility education at university level. The new handbook for integrating web accessibility in ICT education and training fills a gap between generalized information on what the topic is about and the more specialised text books on the topic.
The handbook has been developed specifically for teachers who are interested in starting courses on the topic of web accessibility but need to brush up their own knowledge of the topic before they start. It includes both an introduction to the topic and provides practical guidance on both the fundamental elements that students should learn as well as on how the teaching itself can be made accessible.
The handbook has been developed by the partners in the project IWAC (Integrating Web Accessibility Courses in ICT training), namely the University of Genoa, Stuttgart Media University, Mid Sweden University, the IAAP and Funka.
Our hope is that teachers will use the handbook not only to find background information but also as an inspiration to include web accessibility in their courses, whether it is a small module or a larger programme.
